Abstract

Proposed is the use of a specially designed multi-purpose part in a printing machine that has a multifunctional role as a functioning part of the machine as well as a tool for its repair or setup. Shown in the Figure is an example of a multifunctional machine part, idler pulley assembly 4, which also serves as open end wrench 6 or slot head screw driver 8. The open end wrench 6 and slot head screw driver 8 may have unique sizes that are only used for setting up or repairing the drive belt sub system 10 in the printing machine. The idler pulley assembly 4 is easily removed from drive belt 12 so that, once removed, access to areas intended for service is readily available. Thus, in general, a piece parts in a machine can be used as setup tool by adding tooling features to the piece part. The disclosed multifunctional machine part has the advantage of eliminating cost and storage problems associated with machine tools that are uniquely designed for machine setup or repair.
