Abstract

A device for providing a pulsing vacuum source in synchronism with a mechanical device for use in a sheet feeder of a copier or printer includes a cylindrical chamber connected to a vacuum source with an arcuate opening on one end and a disc with a mating arcuate opening connected to a rotating shaft. The arcuate openings of the end and the disc align once during each rotation of the shaft creating a pulsing vacuum source.

The arcuate openings of the end and the disc align once during each rotation of the shaft creating a pulsing vacuum source.

On a vacuum sheet feeder for a copier or printer vacuum is used to separate a sheet from a stack for feeding through the machine. The vacuum is cycled on and off each cycle to minimize multiple sheet feeding. For high volume machines this cycling is very rapid. Current machines use an electromechanical device for engaging a switching component to provide timed interruption of air flow. This device is costly and for machines with multiple stacks of sheets the device is shared for all stacks.
