Abstract

Proposed is an apparatus designed to provide fusing of xerographic imaging toner to engineerin sized copy media without distorting the media. The speeds, near instant "ON" capability, and relatively low power requirements when compared to other methods of fusing powder images permanently to the copy media. As shown in the accompanying Figure, the radiant roll fuser 10 comprises an externally heated fuser roll 20, a radiant element 26, a pressure roll 28, and a thermally insulated jacket 24. Fuser roll 20 is fabricated from a low mass material such as, for example, fiber glass, and coated with an appropriate material, such as PFA, to provide release and drive. A sheet 30 passes between fuser roller 20 and pressure roller 28 with the toner powder image contacting fuser roller 20. In this manner, the toner powder image is permanently affixed to sheet 30. A ramless toner is used so that no release agent is required.
