Abstract

A developer drive coupling designed to operate with the developer drawer(s) of a single or multicolor copier machine in the open position is disclosed. Normally, the developer housing only engages its drive gears to the central drive system when the developer drawer is closed. The present invention is an extending drive coupling designed to engage either the black or color drive transmission couplings and the main drive coupling in the rear of the machine when the developer drawer or drawers are open. A fixed length or spring loaded insert coupling is used to bridge the gap between the developer and the housing when the drawer is open. As such, the coupling drives the developer mechanism in the drawer even when the developer drawer is extended out from the machine, thereby operating developer housing during an automted test emptying, filling or other processes.
