Abstract

A system for detecting when a toner waste bottle reaches full capacity is described. Referring to the figure, a flexible toner waste bottle 2 has a concave shape 6 at the bottom of the bottle when the bottle contains less waste toner than a predetermined amount. The structure of the bottle 2 is such that the bottom outer rim 10 is of a more sturdy construction than the bottom interior portion of the bottle 6. Preferably, the bottom interior 6 of the bottle is also thinner than the remainder of the bottle, which would allow this bottom wall to deflect downward 8 at a predetermined load. The bottle, in its deflected position 8 creates a bulge that would actuate a toggle switch 4. The actions of the bottle bottom 8 at this predetermined load serve to send a signal, via the switch 4, that the bottle is full or is nearing full capacity. The present system eliminates the need for specialized, complex electronic circuitry, which is not always accurate due to the occurrence of toner clouding in the bottle.
