Abstract

Many products use internal diagnostic software to test the continuity and functionality of optical switches, optical sensors, and mechanical switches, including switch actuators among other devices. However, diagnostic software is not always a dependable source for continuity testing since electrical wiring is sometimes shorted causing wire harnesses to be faulty. Moreover, diagnostic software does not usually provide a diagnostic for AC switch testing, and many times does not provide for testing of all DC switches. The present disclosure provides a hand-held or portable multipurpose sensorkontinuity checker which may be utilized as a low cost tool for setting switch actuators, aligning optical sensors, and testing optical and mechanical switches.

The present disclosure provides a hand-held or portable multipurpose sensorkontinuity checker which may be utilized as a low cost tool for setting switch actuators, aligning optical sensors, and testing optical and mechanical switches.

Referring to the schematic diagram of FIG. 1, the portable multipurpose continuity tester of the present disclosure is comprised of three subsections, namely the power supply section, the bias supply section, and the display section. The power supply section includes a 9 volt battery coupled to a voltage regulator via a power switch (SW1). The battery is preferably a widely available 9 volt alkaline type battery, selected for its known steady voltage and current characteristics. The battery supplies voltage to the regulator comprising the combination of diode D3 and inverter U1 via resistor R1 for dropping the 9 volts supplied by the battery to a standard 5 volt logic level which is input to the bias supply section.
