Abstract

Typical Bottom Vacuum Corrugation Feeders (BVCF), such as in U.S.Patent 4,462,586, are limited to a minimum paper size because the vacuum chamber must always be completely covered to generate enough vacuum for effective paper transport. This is especially true for side registration in the paper tray itself. Also, problems arise in these side registered recirculating document handlers in the levitation ability of the air knife for larger stock sizes.

This is especially true for side registration in the paper tray itself. Also, problems arise in these side registered recirculating document handlers in the levitation ability of the air knife for larger stock sizes.

Placement of an adaptor for A5 sheets by an operator onto the sheet support surface of the BVFC effectively deals with both problems, i.e., side registration, and center registered feeders, since the adaptor covers the vacuum chamber of the BVFC with a pliable, low friction material in the area not covered by the A5 sheets on the sheet support surface. The adaptor has ventilated side guides that are provided for precise feeding and restacking. The levitation ability of the air knife (especially in side registered feeders) is dealt with by directing air flow from air knife jets that are not effective by the employment of a baffle that is angled to the base of the sheet stock. This diversion is aimed at the bottom of the sheet stack and not above, so as to not effect the BVFC ability to restack.
