Abstract

Proposed are several uses for an existing paper sensor attached to the ink cartridge holder in an ink-jet printer such as the Xerox 4004. Other functions for which the existing sensor may be used include: paper width detection, accurate start-of-print detection for multipass printing, and top-of-form to end-of-form detection. To implement the proposed functions, the present sensor location must be moved to a new position located slightly downstream from the print head.
