Abstract

Proposed is the use of on board capillary foamdfelts as a secondary supply in rapid scan ink jet print heads. The proposed capillary materials address two problems associated with scanning print heads. Firstly, they maintain a constant negative pressure so as to prevent nozzle weeping. Secondly, they provide a buffer which dampens the effect of large accelerations encountered in a rapid scan architecture. To minimize the mass to be scanned, the capillary materials contain a partial supply of ink which is resupplied from a larger ink reservoir in the printer. This further minimizes printer maintenance performed by the user.
