Abstract

Disclosed is a printedcopier system service indicator system which is activated upon detection of, for example, a printing system error and which indicator system is used to alert a user/operator of the printing system error. The printer/copier service indicator system comprises a plurality of sensors for monitoring critical and user selectable printing system functions and activity, and a standard electrical outlet fe.g. 120V, 60 Hz) which is in communication with the system sensors. Upon detection of a printing system error, malfunction, or service state(e.g. low paper condition) the electrical outlet becomes energized. The electrical outlet may be equipped with various indicating devices for, for example, a blinking light, buzzer, phone dialer, message boards, recording timers, and the like devices. The indicating device can, for example, signal an operator, record system down time, or message a remote location. The service indicator system provides for a wide variety user/operator signal and alert options. The indicator system can be particularly useful in a multimachine printing environment. The use of dedicated service indicator lights, for example, "add toner", are known.
