Abstract

Disclosed is an apparatus and method of mounting a chute on a lathe machine providing axis varying means for at least nine different positions for pouring or applying materials onto a rotating roll to coat the roll. The apparatus and method are useful for the preparation of various prototype rolls and provides excellent control for coating rolls uniformly.

FLOW COATING FIXTURE (Cont'd)

Disclosed is an apparatus and method of mounting a chute on a lathe machine providing axis varying means for at least nine different positions for pouring or applying materials onto a rotating roll to coat the roll. The apparatus and method are useful for the preparation of various prototype rolls and provides excellent control for coating rolls uniformly.

As shown in the figure chute 1 for directing and delivering elastomeric and related coating materials to a rotating roll (not shown) is supported and position varied by the lathe mountable assembly. A tee 2 is adapted to fit an existing lathe mount. A horizontal plate 3 supporting vertical plate 4 is attached to tee 2. Plate 4, in turn, supports an Atlas carriage 5. A vertical traverse means 6 which is either hand crank or servo motor adjustable is attached to carriage 5. Vertical rotation and horizontal traverse are achieved by the cooperation of tee block 7 and cross slide 8, respectively, acting on support block 9 and rotatably adjustable chute support 10.

The apparatus and method for applying coating materials to rollers provides a means for conveniently and reproducibly preparing various desired uniform coating thicknesses.
