Abstract

Proposed is an apparatus for eliminating paper dust and talc fiom the cut edges of a paper stack contained in a paper feeder of an electrostatic printing machine. The proposed paper feeder utilizes two passive vacuum manifolds to partially remove particulate matter at the lead, trail, and side edges of a copy sheet. Additionally, a Vacuum Corrugation Feeder (VCF) feed head cleans the remaining lead and trail edge areas which are not cleaned by the vacuum manifolds.

DUST ELIMINATING PAPER FEEDER (CONT'D)

Proposed is an apparatus for eliminating paper dust and talc fiom the cut edges of a paper stack contained in a paper feeder of an electrostatic printing machine. The proposed paper feeder utilizes two passive vacuum manifolds to partially remove particulate matter at the lead, trail, and side edges of a copy sheet. Additionally, a Vacuum Corrugation Feeder (VCF) feed head cleans the remaining lead and trail edge areas which are not cleaned by the vacuum manifolds.

Referring to the accompanying figure, there is shown a schematic plan view of the dust eliminating paper feeder. A copy sheet 18 is located in a tray (not shown) and contained by a pair of side guides 16 and a rear guide 14. As sheet 18 is fed in the direction of arrow
12, the sheet passes under a pair of vacuum manifolds 22 and a VCF 20. The manifolds 22 may be boxes having appropriately shaped holes therein to prevent paper jams. The manifolds 22 remove dust and talc along the side edges and portions of the lead and trail
edges of the copy sheet 18. The VCF cleans the remaining lead and trail edge areas
