Disclosed is a method to reduce noise and increase document handler belt life in xerographic copiers and scanners. The method comprises replacing hard plastic pressure or backup rollers of the document handler belt with soft foam rollers. A suitable compliant foam material is ENDuR C-300/20, available from Rodgers Corporation, south windham, Connecticut.

Wear life of document handling belts used in conjunction with foam rollers were increased, for example, by about three fold compared to belt life with conventional hard plastic rolls. Use of a compliant foam obviates or reduces the need for applying silicones, and the like, roll or belt lubricants.
