Abstract

The assignment and use of PINS (personal identification numbers) for printer mailbox bin access is described, for example, in Xerox Corporation US. Patent Nos. 5,295,181 and 5,358,238. These same assigned PINS may also be optionally allowed, e.g., by system administrator entry in non-volatile memory (NVM), to be used by those same persons or groups to also access the printer auditron (instead of requiring a separate user auditron access number) or to access various other printer or system information or functions.

The general concept of plural uses of the same PIN is, of course, known. For example, the Navy Federal Credit Union pin number system for use in ATMs allows the same pin number to also be used for their telephone auto-teller system.
