Abstract

Proposed is the utilization of toner scrap that would normally be sent to a land fd into a new product for the graphics arts industry. Compressed toner is formed by an in-line compression fvrture and thereafter could be molded in forms such that the drawing or leaded pencils can be produced.

Proposed is the utilization of toner scrap that would normally be sent to a land fd into a new product for the graphics arts industry. Compressed toner is formed by an in-line compression fvrture and thereafter could be molded in forms such that the drawing or leaded pencils can be produced.

This proposal could also use an existing pack line in a toner production facility to implement the compression fxture. For example, the fd head normally used for cartridge filling could be converted to accommodate a compression plate or head, with the base of the compression fixture being placed where a cartridge puck would normally be located.

Toner scrap is generated in many forms throughout the manufacturing process of toner. For example, currently, classification fines are recycled back into the process at the extrusion stage, however, a small percentage of material is still sent to the dust collection system along with the grind process. Scrap is also generated at other process stages in small percentages and rework is not always possible unless the material is concentrated as suggested in the above proposal.
