Abstract

Disclosed is a Reverse Single Blade Hybrid (RSBH) cleaner apparatus having a Single Blade Hybrid (SBH) cleaner wherein the order of the cleaning brush and blade is reversed in configuration. An advantage of this approach is that it allows for a long life for the blade/brush combination. The primary function of the brush is to clean toner streaks left by the blade when localized blade edge defects occur. This allows a blade to run long after the first streak develops.

Disclosed is a Reverse Single Blade Hybrid (RSBH) cleaner apparatus having a Single Blade Hybrid (SBH) cleaner wherein the order of the cleaning brush and blade is reversed in configuration. An advantage of this approach is that it allows for a long life for the blade/brush combination. The primary function of the brush is to clean toner streaks left by the blade when localized blade edge defects occur. This allows a blade to run long after the first streak develops.

Many cleaning system products use a SBH design 1 as shown in Figure 1. This cleaner offers advantages over a simple blade cleaner in the areas of blade life and comet suppression. The blade life is extended because the brush 2 acts to remove paper fibers, carrier beads, and the like, that can cause damage to the blade 3 edge. Typical blade life with a SBH is increased by about two times over the simple blade cleaner. Comets can be suppressed since the brush acts to abrade them from the photoreceptor surface 6.
