Abstract

The processing of print or copy outputs on a multifunctional digital printer and, or copier receives a priority of processing, at the exclusion of the other function. A proposed multiplexed method for running the two functions concurrently and sequentially, at half speed, segregates each delivery to a copy bin or a print bin. Machine software controls image generation and raster creation allowing implementation by way of a "Ping-Pong" type switching arrangement. Print data (incoming or buffered at the machine) and hard copy (scanned by the machine) interleave, by way of the switch setting, to the process pages delivered to xerographic subsystems. A software control status for image generation and raster creation determines the switch setting. Separate and dedicated output areas for printing are required for segregation.
