Abstract

Proposed is a Thermal Ink Jet (TIJ) imaging system having an ink supply in the form of a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU). The accompanying figure illustrates a TIJ printer 10 and replaceable ink supply 20 separated therefrom. Ink supply 20 includes a locking tab 22, seals 24, and a docking pin 26 that mate with mounting detents 12 and 16, and seals 14 on printer 10. A detachable cap 18 is also included on the ink supply 20. The cap 18 is removed and discarded when ink supply 20 is installed in printer 10. Other major components forming an architecture for printer 20, as shown in the figure, include: a light emitting diode array 30, lens 32, shroud 34, input chip and wire bonds 36, carriage frame 38, TIJ chip 40, flex circuit 42, sump 44, and a support surface 46.
