Abstract

Proposed is a rotating brush that holds an original document in contact with a glass scanning slit and cleans particulate matter therefrom. As shown in the accompanying figure, a scanning platen cleaner 10 consists of a brush 12 placed over a glass scanning slit 14 between Constant Velocity Transport (CVT) rollers 16. As an original document 22 travels in the direction of arrow 24, brush 12 holds document 22 in intimate contact with scanning slit 14 to maintain focus of the image being scanned by scanner 30. Brush 12 sweeps paper debris from the glass when the bristles of brush 12 are exposed in the inter-document gap. A flicker bar 32 is employed to stimulate and facilitate removal of dirt particles picked up by brush 12.
