Abstract

Many ink jet printers utilize printheads connected to ink supply cartridges where the operating life of the printhead exceeds the life of a number of ink supply cartridges. If the printer is normally parked over a maintenance station during maintenance zone, and access from a top access door, it is relatively easy to provide for snap removal and replacement of the cartridges alone with the printheads remaining in place. If the printheads require replacement, the cartridge is locked by a locking mechanism to the printhead, and the cartridge acts as a handle for easy removal of the printhead.
