Abstract

The figure shows an ink jet printer which includes a document scan unit 10 mounted above an ink jet printhead 12. The front of the machine is to the left of these units. The scanner is positioned with its rear edge aligned with (or further back than) the rear most portion of unit 12. The printer includes a paper feeder 14 which feeds paper into a recording zone beneath printer unit 12. The paper path makes a 180" upward turn as it exits printer unit 12.

The features of this architecture are that the depth of the scanner unit 10 is minimized; visual and hand access is afforded to the output paper tray and top access is available for the output paper tray.
