Abstract

Proposed is the passivating of a screen filter for a Thermal Ink Jet (TIJ) device to prevent interactions with polar, waterfast inks. The passivation is accomplished with an organic coating using a electrophoretic deposition technique. Two important aspects of the coating are: that it be deposited on the entire three-dimensional surface of a nickel screen, and that it be thin enough so as not to block the pores.

REFERENCE

U.S. Patent No. 4,864,329 to Kneezel et al. discloses a substantially flat filter, such as an electroformed nickel screen, which may be bonded at the wafer level to the ink inlets of an ink jet device.
