Abstract

Disclosed is a cassette like cartridge containing a cleaning pad to clean a media transport belt, commonly found on full width array thermal ink jet printing devices. An operator or user inserts the cleaning cartridge into a cassette receiver located in the printer when a print defect becomes visible, for example, a back sheet offset. The printer detects the presence of the cleaning cartridge and initiates a cleaning sequence. All other machine functions would be temporarily disabled during the cleaning sequence. The cassette is automatically ejected from the cleaning position when complete and normal machine function thereafter is resumed. The cleaner cassette is analogous in the basic cleaning function in many respects to those used to clean video tape recordedplay magnetic heads.
