Abstract

Disclosed is a method for reducing or saving paper consumption in electrostatographic printing machines, copiers, and the like. The method comprises, in a duplex capable printing device, providing duplex printing mode automatically as a default printing mode. To enable the alternative simplex printing mode requires an operator to deliberately disable the aforementioned automatic or default duplex printing mode. The default duplex printing mode feature can be accomplished by setting mechanical and electronic control features at the point of manufacture, upon installation, or during operation using panel controls, by for example, selecting "duplex always". Alternatively, the method may be accomplished by software control routines which may be selected: by an assembler at manufacture pursuant to a specific customer order; by a technical representative at installation or upon request; or by an operator as desired.
