Abstract

Disclosed is a method for improving fuser clean up productivity in electrostatographic printing and copying machines comprising: during machine shutdown or print interruption, selecting cut sheet blank paper within a paper path that is located prior to a fuser member and which paper has not been imaged; and sending the blank paper to the fuser for use in cleaning the fuser during the shutdown period. Prior practice was to purge the paper path completely upon shutdown, and thereafter upon startup, selecting fresh paper from feeder trays for fuser cleaning. The method provides cost savings in using otherwise wasted paper, and productivity improvements by using shutdown time for fuser cleaning and maintenance.
