Abstract

Disclosed is a cleaning formulation which is particularly effective for cleaning carbon black containing ink formulations and which inks are used, for example, in thermal ink jet and related printing devices. An exemplary cleaning formulation comprises, for example, 40 percent by weight water or mixtures of water and another suitable polar and miscible solvent, 20 percent sulfolane or other similar polar solvents, and 40 percent glycol such as ethylene glycol or other similar glycols and mixtures thereof. The cleaning formulation is particularly well suited for cleaning mk jet parts, such as printheads and maintenance stations, and for cleaning up ink spills or cleaning other articles following inadvertent contact. The cleaning formulation can be adapted for use with other pigmented, non-pigmented, and other colorant water based inks.
