Abstract

Disclosed is a toner hopper "cannel" article which article provides combined capping and funneling functionality in toner dispensing operations for improving the dispensing of toner particles from toner bottles to a toner receiver member, such as a toner hopper or developer housing in, for example, xerographic printing devices. The toner hopper "cannel" reduces or eliminates toner spillage and concomitant hardware and area contamination problems resulting from toner spillage. The hopper "cannel" article comprises, for example, a hollow cone constructed of, for example molded plastic, with conical threads on the internal surface at the larger open end of the cone for receiving and attaching to a toner bottle, a smooth conical internal surface at the smaller open end of the cone for mating with a toner hopper or developer housing, and an integrally molded plastic strap attached to the exterior of the hollow cone that attaches to the toner hopper and properly orients the toner bottle to the toner receiver and prevents interference by a toner agitator during normal dispense operation. In a preferred embodiment, the smaller opening of the "cannel" is offset or is in eccentric relation to the larger opening to further reduce the apparent size of the opening and to prevent a toner agitator in the toner receiver member from striking the "cannel" during normal operation. In an exemplary application, a toner bottle is fitted with the "cannel" by matching the threads of the bottle with the cone. The toner bottle and "cannel" assembly is inserted into a toner receiver port where the toner is thereafter dispensed. The "cannel" is reused in subsequent fill and dispense operations.
