Abstract

A paper strip is adhesively attached over the opening of a toner cartridge, sealing the entrance for shipment. After the cartridge is placed in the machine, the strip is peeled back by hand to expose the opening, thereby allowing toner to enter the developer housing. Presently, the strip can possibly carry a substantial mount of loosely adhered toner and can act as a coil spring, rolling up and splattering toner over the side of the copier and possibly onto the paper tray located below the toner cartridge in the lower unit of the machine.

Proposed is a cleaning soft sponge clipped or adhered to the cartridge, wherein the paper strip is drawn across the sponge. The sponge collects excess toner. The cleaning soft sponge may also act as a decurler.

The figure demonstrates a possible confrguration of the cleaner soft sponge as part of a toner cartridge, wherein toner 1 is present on the inside of the cartridge. Paper strip 2 is pulled from the cartridge in the direction of arrow 3 across cleaning soft sponge 4, so that the accumulated toner is wiped from the strip 2 and adheres to the sponge 4 as strip 2 is pulled from the cartridge. This configuration reduces or eliminates toner migration into the lower unit of the machine.
