Abstract

Instant messenger (IM) is soon becoming a popular communication mechanism used by one and all. Content Management (CM) clients can leverage this functionality to enhance document routing. In a typical content management scenario, a user can route a document to another user for further processing, unless and until the receiving user has the content management client open, he or she doesn't get notified of such document arrival. The IM enabled CM client would notify or even route the document using the infrastructure provided by IM.

Route with no IM support - This is the pure vanilla route as provided by the CM system.

Route with IM notification - In this option, in addition to routing the document using the CM system, an IM message is sent to the user using the IM information retrieved from the server. The message format can be one of the set of predefined templates that gets installed with the client or a custom message as defined by the end user.
