Abstract

Disclosed is the use of a lock to secure sensitive information left on donor rolls in printing machines using thermal transfer technology. Thermal transfer printing results in a negative image of the document being left on the non-reusable transfer rolls inside the printer. Typically, these printers are used for group presentations and overhead slides displaying the most sensitive of private data. Furthermore, the printers are usually remotely located and not under direct supervision. These factors contribute to provide a high-risk source for private data. A keyed padlock or combination lock added to the printer's case prevents the case from being opened and denies unauthorized access to the data.
