Abstract

Disclosed is an expandable "on-line" help system for users to personalize their equipment and help new users learn application specific tasks. The expandable "on-line" help system replaces Post-ItTM notes found cluttering office equipment. The help system may be an integrated part of a User Interface (UI). For example, a portion of the UI memory could be reserved as a virtual bulletin board for "Help" notes entered by the user. A user enters their "Help" note by way of a soft keyboard for touch activated screen displays or a standard keyboard for equipment attached to a personal computer. Having the user add to or personalize application type software increases productivity and aids new users learning common tasks used in a specific work environment. The disclosed help system may be a "shared book" or a user's log wherein, users leave productivity tips for others to read.
