Abstract

A vacuum head is used in the manufacture of sealed toner cartridges which are used in xerographic copiers and printers. In the manufacturing process, the vacuum head picks up an individual toner cartridge seal from a stack and transfers the picked seal to a position over the cartridge to be sealed. The vacuum head then lowers the seal on the cartridge within specified tolerances.

A vacuum head is used in the manufacture of sealed toner cartridges which are used in xerographic copiers and printers. In the manufacturing process, the vacuum head picks up an individual toner cartridge seal from a stack and transfers the picked seal to a position over the cartridge to be sealed. The vacuum head then lowers the seal on the cartridge within specified tolerances.

An improved design of such a vacuum head is shown in the figure. A head 10 having a set of suction cups 12 thereon is suspended by two shafts 14 which extend through opening 16 in a stationary frame 18. The top ends of shafts 14 which extend over the frame 18 slide through linear bearings 20. Attached to the top of the shaft 16 is a top plate 22. A central opening 24 within top plate 22 allows the passage of a shaft 26 therethrough, the shaft 26 being connected to an air cylinder 28 mounted on frame 18. The shaft 26 which extends through opening 24 in top plate 22 includes two washers thereon, upper washer 30 and lower washer 32.
