Abstract

Disclosed is an exit roll nip that ensures proper sheet stacking with increased process speeds. As shown in the accompanying figure, a nip release solenoid 10 added to an exit tray 40 lifts idler rollers 12 and 14 up and away from drive rollers 16 and 18. In this configuration, a previous high speed nip (not shown) drives sheets without intereference from the slower nip formed between idler rollers 12 and 14 and the drive rollers 16 and 18. When sheets release from the high speed nip, solenoid 10 lowers the idler rollers 12 and 14 to drive the sheets at a slower speed into the exit tray 40.
