Abstract

Disclosed is an actuation mechanism for providing a printhead capping function in an ink jet printer. As illustrated in the accompanying figure, a threaded rod 20 driven by gear 14 moves sleeve 24 in the bidirectional manner of arrow 22 with rod 20 being supported at opposite ends by bearings 18. A pivoting arm 26 fixed between sleeve 24 and capping member 10 converts the rotational motion of gear 14 shown by arrow 16 into the vertical motion of capping member 10 as indicated by arrow 12.
