Abstract

Disclosed is an actuation mechanism to move a cap onto a Thermal Ink Jet (TIJ) printhead. As shown in the accompanying figure, the mechanism involves a cam 18 positioned directly below the centerline of cap 10 that actuates a straight rod 20. A first compression spring 14 is provided to maintain contact with cam 18 and follower 22. A second compression spring 12 maintains contact between cap 10 and rod 20. Cam 18 is driven by gear 16.
