Abstract

Disclosed is a maintenance station design for wiping or capping a Thermal Ink Jet (TLT) printhead. This design is aimed at saving space. As shown in the figure, the main feature is the continuous rotator motion of main shaft 10 in only one direction, eliminating the need for a reversible stepper motor. The reverse and forward motion is provided by two segment gears 12 and 14 to respective forward 16 and reverse shafts 18. It uses the motion of a stepper motor 20 to drive a wiper (not shown) or capping mechanism (not shown) by way of a gear 22 affixed to shaft 10.
