Removable Media Drive Lockup when Computer System Desktop is Locked

When a user locks the desktop of a Microsoft Windows* operating system, the removable media drives should not be accessible. This would/could be controlled by the operating system much like the ability to open the removable media drives from an icon in the System Tray. This patent addresses WHEN to lock the removable media drives using existing mechanisms within the Microsoft Windows operating system(s).

Microsoft Windows operating system(s) should lock the removable media drives when the desktop is locked. Advantage: Security. Currently, if the user locks their desktop, the system is still vulnerable. Removable media containing a virus with an Install file may be entered and executed. Also, removable media in the drives are accessible, even though the desktop is locked and could be stolen.

If Microsoft Windows operating system(s) locked the removable media drives whenever the desktop was locked, the system would be more secure.
