Invention Abstract This is a low cost plastic valve, and filtering system that could be easily added to a washer. It diverts the water back into the basket through a screen. The uniqueness is that the unit, through processor control, can back flush the screen into the drain, eliminating the need for the customer to clean the screen.

Problem or requirement addressed by the invention Currently lint is not removed from the wash and remains on the cloths. This is especially important if the cloths are air dried. When machine dried excessive lint is passed onto the dryer clogging the filter and retarding the drying. With cleaner cloths coming from the washing machine, even cleaner cloths will come from the dryer.

How has this problem or requirement been addressed before? Water has been recirculated into a catcher in the tub.

How the invention works The pump is turned on during the agitate cycle. The water goes to a diverter valve which selects recycle or drain. If recycle is selected the water pushes open a gravity valve and enters the top of the screen chamber. The water passes through the screen, passes through a second gravity valve, goes up a tube and back into the tub. If the diverter valve selects drain the water pushes open a gravity valve to enter the bottom chamber of the filter screen, passes through the screen backwards cleaning it, goes through another gravity valve to the drain pipe.
