Title of Invention:

Using the Oven Jamb Switch as an Oven Algorithm Trigger

Invention Abstract This Disclosure suggests using the Oven Jamb Switch as a trigger for algorithms within the ERC (Electronic Range Control). There are two potential uses: 1. Enhance Preheat Performance by cycling elements as a function of door open time to lessen Preheat Time. 2. Protect the Convection Element from early failure

Problem or requirement addressed by the invention The longer the range door is left open (loading food or checking for doneness) the more the Preheat and Cooking Performance is affected. Time to Preheat and Cook can be optimized if the Oven can "react" to this loss of energy. Secondly, when the door is open during a Convection Bake/Roast Cycle, the Fan stops but the Convect Element continues to fire, potentially shortening the element life, prompting Service Calls. If the ERC could shut off the element after a prescribed amount of door open time, the life of the element could be enhanced.

How the invention works The ERC senses via the Jamb Switch the amount of time the Range Door is Open, during Preheat or Cooking. Based on testing, Level Tables can be constructed and used in an algorithm (element sharing/cycling routine based on door open time) to allow the oven to recover the lost energy as quickly as possible. Also, the fact that the ERC will keep track of Door Open Time, it could cut off power to the Convection Element, thereby conserving its life. The ERC co...
