Abstract

This invention enables an international web server to serve users from multiple countries without requiring the user to prespecify the country or language desired. It uses Global Positioning System (GPS) data to identify the language to be used.

A Method To Enable A Web Server Serve Intenational Web Pages

     A web server available today can serve webpages for a single site in multiple languages. For example, a web server in the US serves web pages by pre storing a translated copy of the page for each language. However, the user is required to configure the browser to only request the pages being surfed in the language of choice. The current method to do this is send a country designation to the server to only server pages in the language indicated. An alternate is to change the URL (Uniform Resource Loctor) to include the parameter to select the desired language.ect the user to another web server that serves Japanese. As a result, the web server providers must duplicate the cost for each additional language it needs to serve. This invention enables an international web server to serve users from multiple countries without requiring the user to prespecify the country or language desired.

     A client is equipped with a Global Positioning Satellite Receiver or a similar location determining device. When the client specifies a web page, the browser will query the GPS (Global Positioning System) for its location. That information will be returned to the server in addition to the URL desired. The server will recognize the presence of GPS coordinates.
