Abstract

Create a lab process that can duplicate multiple possible network/server environments. Multiple network topologies connected through bridges and hubs to multiple server Operating Systems with an application that verifies connection speed and integrity. Each of the options available to multiple engineers working in a lab environment with printed test results.

Multiple Network Topology Distribution

A customer wants to create and image that meets certain requirements . Each combination of image and hardware has certain unique networking requirements .

Different network technologies may include:
1. Token Ring at speeds of 4/16/100 mb/sec
2. Ethernet at speeds of 10/100/1000 mb/sec
3. ISDN
4. FIDI
5. Fiber Connections
6. Dial

Testing requirements might include testing again various type of servers including,
1. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000
2. Novell 3.12, 4.0, 5.0, or 6.0
3. Various Distribution of Linux

In addition customers request that server images be stress tested with hundreds of clients over a period of time with printed results that verify the servers network functionality. Engineers are required to have the hardware and network topology's to test each of these combinations.

Instead of doing the process in the old way in which each engineer would set up the required connection each time a new requirement came in from a customer (and hoping that the configuration was correct) a process/network was created that distributed each required connection to each workstation and made it constantly available . Each engineer now has a set 32 port at their workcell that allows them to access whatever type of connectivity is needed for each project . This has greatly reduced the time required to complete each project and increased customer satisfaction .
