Abstract

What is proposed is a heater control algorithm that linearly varies the voltage supplied to the heater system via a microprocessor using a temperature signal input. The control algorithm will allow the microprocessor to increase or decrease the heater power (Wattage) based on the drum outlet air temperature. Rather than shutting off a heater when the maximum allowable outlet air temperature is reached as is done on today's dryers, the control will gradually turn down the voltage supplied to the heater, maintaining the outlet temperature just below the maximum allowable for a given fabric type. The result is more precise temperature control, a more efficient dryer, and faster dry time.
