Abstract

Tivoli offers a function called "FACT files". In the present invention, the FACT files are used to administrate all the console views that the Operators are using. The performance of the Desktop TEC are improved by the use of a single SQL (STRUCTURED QUERY LANGUAGE) request to configure the views. This single SQL request simplifies the administration of the operator console views. The principe of the present invention is to add in Tivoli FACT files, all the servers that are connected to the production infractructure.

Centralized Administration of Tivoli fact Files

In a shared Tivoli environment, the registration of all the customers requires the management of a lot of Tivoli TMR/TEC (Tivoli Management Region/Tivoli Enterprise Console) servers. TEC (Tivoli Enterprise Console) events are forwarded from a TEC to another TEC to reach the highest TEC level. The problem raised by the multiplication of the TECs is the administration of the views of the TEC events for all the operator consoles. Each console view is specific to a customer, to an activity or to an application and is generally based on the a regroupement of several servers. Two operator consoles have not the same view an the configuration of a console view changes according to requirements of the customer/application/activity administrated by the operator. The present invention discloses a system for administrating the operator console views from a centralized point.

Tivoli offers a function called "FACT files". In the present invention, the FACT files are used to administrate all the console views that the Operators are using. The performance of the Desktop TEC are improved by the use of a single SQL (STRUCTURED QUERY LANGUAGE) request to configure the views. This single SQL request looks like :

Clause SQL: slot_name=consoleXX

XX being a console identifier (a TEC comprising a plurality of consoles).

This single SQL request simplifies the administration of the operator console views. The principe of the present invention is to add in Tivoli FACT files, all the servers that are connected to the production infractructure. With a specific TEC rule, a particular value is assigned to a defined slot in each TEC event. Two kinds of TEC rules are defined (each rule corresponding an analysis level) :

The first analysis level is used on the TMR/TEC hosting the customer servers. At this level, a subgroup name is assigned to each customer server.

FACT file example : server('XXX_sapprod','xxx_g1'). server('XXX_webprod','xxx_g2'). server('INF_tivoli','inf_g1').

The second analysis level is used on the highest TMR/TEC level. The TEC events are forwarded from TEC to TEC to the highest TMR/TEC level .This operation mode is justified by the network architecture and the use of multiple firewalls between the different environments (between the customer and the service provider enviroments) At this le...
