Abstract

Top cover gasket to surround fastener opening to improve; torque retention, cover bowing, sealing, and acoustic performance. Presently, as the cover is torqued into place the cover gasket is only on one side, which causes an uneven torque distribution under the head of the fastener. The cover then tends to bow which can cause actuator pivot and/or spindle motor tilt when the perimeter fasteners are engaged; and the gap between the cover and respective shafts has increased. The acoustic performance is enhanced with the additional damping offered by the increased seal area. The resultant product yield and product performance/reliability will be improved.

Reduces cover bow upon installation and fastener torque sequence.

With reduced bowing, the integrity of the seal is improved.

With reduced bowing, pivot and spindle tilit is improved.

With the larger surface area of the seal and with improved torqued retention; acoustic performance is enhanced.

More expensive materials and the addtional expense of using tighter tolerances have been the traditional approach.
