Abstract

A laser aimer arrangement in an X-ray apparatus e.g, for diagmnostic medical imaging, comprises a laser generator disposed within a tube head housing. The tube head housing accommodates a collimator having a soft X-ray attenuation filter for obtaining a collimated X-ray beam that is free of soft X-rays. The filter is configured at an inclined position so as to kill the soft X-rays for forming a collimated beam and as well as to reflect the laser from the laser generator for forming a laser reference mark along the X-ray beam.

LASER AIMER ARRANGEMENT FOR X-RAY APPARATUS

 

 

 

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001]   This invention relates generally to laser aimers, and more particularly, to laser aimers integrated to X-ray tube head in an X-ray apparatus, for use in diagnostic medical imaging.

[0002]    Laser aimers are used as locating tools by surgeons to make an incision or drill on a patient’s body, by locating a point on the outer body of a patient, corresponding to a point on an X- ray image showing the anatomy of the patient. 

[0003]     Known configurations of laser aimers (shown in FIG. 1) include a laser reflector (e.g. mirror) that moves within an X-ray field for projecting a locating reference mark on patient’s body, wherein the laser aimer is attached detachedly or integrally with the tube head of the X-ray apparatus.  However, this arrangement causes an artifact on the obtained X-ray image, resulting in deterioration of image quality.  Furthermore, this configuration is much complicated in design as it uses a separate laser reflector and therefore is not cost-effective.

[0004]   Thus, known configurations do not provide for a laser aimer that is cost-effective, has a simple design and also prevents generation of artifact to obtain a high quality image.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0005]    A laser aimer arrangement in an X-ray apparatus comprises a laser generator disposed within a tube head housing.  The tube head housing accommodates a collimator having a soft X-ray attenuation filter for obtaining a collimated X-ray beam that is free of soft X-rays.  The soft X-ray attenuation filter is configured at an inclined position so as to kill the soft X-rays as well as to reflect the laser from the laser generator for forming a laser reference mark along the X-ray beam.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0008]    Various embodiments of the present invention describe a laser aimer arrangement in an X-ray apparatus for use in diagnostic medical imaging.  However, the embodiments are not so limited, and may be implemented in connection with other systems such as, for example, industrial inspection systems, security scanners etc.
