A method to personalize PC without leaving unnecessary information

Disclosed is a method to automatically personalize software settings on the PCs before shipment without leaving unnecessary information. Even though many automatic PC setting methods were proposed formerly, they are unsuitable for the situation where a lot of pre-shipment PCs need software customization and data verification at the factory because those methods usually require installing special programs or using large capacity media or network environment, which results in leaving unnecessary information for end-users such as operation histories, registry changes and driver program files. The disclosed method solves this problem and provides the automatic PC setting management system for the factory operators.

Fig. 1 shows the concept of the method. The parameter list is the file that describes the set-up items and values. The management program imports the parameter list and enables users to create the work diskettes. Each work diskette contains several programs that perform the PC settings based on the parameter list. Almost all PCs do not require new driver files to read diskettes, so these set-up programs can be injected into the target PC without installing unnecessary files.

By running the program after inserting the diskette into a PC, set-up process is automatically started. After the set-up is completed, verification process and clean-up process are performed. Injected program files and...
