Abstract

Disclosed is a method for a task distribution to multiple information processing devices (also referred as "client systems" hereafter) by pull operation. The pull operation by end user assumes a simple operation like clicking an icon attached to an e-mail sent by system administrator.

A Control Method for A Task Dstribution to Multiple Information Processing Devices by Pull Operation

Disclosed is a method for a task distribution to multiple information processing devices by pull operation. The pull operation by end user assumes a simple operation like clicking an icon attached to an e-mail sent by system administrator.

Background ----------
There have been a lot of requirements to execute a program on multiple client systems for maintenance purposes. In most cases, those client systems are widely installed at multiple locations, and IT administrators need to visit each client system's location to perform necessary operations.

There are system management software tools that allow IT administrators perform such activities without visiting each client system's location. Those tools include "push" type solution that allows IT administrator performs a task at client systems from remote without end user's acknowledgement, and "pull" type solution that instructs end users to start a task. Here, the "push" type solution requires the target client system be connected to the network and also equipped with an agent program that accepts a task deployed from remote.

Assumptions and prerequisites of this invention include: - There is no agent program installed in each client system, thus requires "pull" type solution; - A list of target systems with ID information that specifies each target system. (ex. machine type/model, serial number, etc.) - A list of target systems with information of contacting to the end user of each client system (such as e-mail address) is available.

Contents of invention ------------------
The system used by achieving this method is consist of the following items.
(1) A computer system for system administrator;
(2) A management program that runs on (1);
(3) A list of target client system's information that is stored on (1);
(4) A program that runs on each target client system;
(5) A text of instruction to each end user of a target system;
(6) A prgram that accepts (4) at client system and start it;
(7) ID information that identifies the target client system;
(8) A message that includes (5), (6) and (7);
(9) Target client systems;

Procedure ---------
(a) A system administrator creates a program (4), by using the program (2).
(b) A system administrator, by suing the program (2), selects target client system from the list (3) and connects them to the program created in (a).
(c) The program (2) generates a message (8) which is a body of text (5) with attachment files of the program (6) and the ID information (7). Here, the text (5) and the program
(6) can be specified...
