Abstract

Use of Isobutylene block copolymers for medical device applications. Of particular significance is the application of Styrene-Isobutylene block copolymers for the prevention of post-surgical adhesions. Exemplary embodiments include polymer-coated sutures and staples, polymers applied as a spray or salve directly to a localized area, and wraps made from or coated with such polymers. Such polymers are also useful to prevent or control cell growth on implants such as heart valves, venous valves, splints, any removable implant, replacement joints or tendons, and electronic implants (pacing device, defibrillator, monitoring device, injection device).
