Abstract

In an embodiment, a fail-safe replacement tool for a bursting disc is provided, wherein the tool comprises a lever 10 and a set of bolts 12 that are fitted with spring washers 14. During the bursting disc removal process some of the original screws are replaced with the sprung bolts 12 and lever 10. The remaining original screws can then be removed without compromising the seals between the bursting disc and the quench vent. By pulling on the handle of the lever that pivots against a cryostat, the quench systems can quickly be opened allowing fast replacement of the bursting disc

A FAIL-SAFE REPLACEMENT TOOL FOR BURSTING DISC

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001]   This invention relates generally, to service tools for bursting disc replacement, and more particularly, to fail-safe replacement tool for bursting disc used especially, in medical applications.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]   Generally, bursting discs are required to be changed as part of routine maintenance e.g. for every 1-3 years.  During the replacement process, it is necessary to disconnect a quench exhaust system and expose a helium vessel to atmosphere.  If the magnet quenches at the time of service, the service personnel be at a risk of asphyxiation and cold burns.

[0003]    Thus, there exists a need for a fail-safe replacement tool for the bursting discs.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0004]    In an embodiment, a fail-safe replacement tool for bursting disc is provided, wherein the tool comprises a lever and a set of bolts that are fitted with spring washers.  During the bursting disc removal process some of the original screws are replaced with the sprung bolts and lever.  The remaining original screws can then be removed without compromising the seals between the bursting disc and the quench vent. By pulling on the handle of the lever that pivots against a cryostat,  the quench systems can quickly be opened allowing fast replacement of the bursting disc.
