Abstract

FIELD OF THE IDEA The idea described in this text refers to a method and system for making collected telephone calls in a package network environment for users interconnected through a package network, formed by a so called Soft Switch, a media gateway and an announcement/message generator. The Soft Switch is responsible for providing and controlling collect telephone calls resources directed to a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). TECHNICAL BACKGROUND A preliminary analysis of the voice technology on package network is necessary to better define some devices that are crucial for this architecture, to which collect calls belong to, as well as specifying some common communication nomenclature and terms. The IP telephony technology, in package communication networks (for example, the Internet Protocol, IP), consists in using data networks with network protocols for making telephone calls and transmitting real-time voice in the form of data packages. Additional call and voice service protocols are implemented, which allow users to communicate with the same quality offered by conventional public system networks for switched telephone and mobile telephone public systems. These protocols are executed by network devices, so voice packages will not delay, or have their sequence changed or lost, assuring real time communication.

FIELD OF THE IDEA

The idea described in this text refers to a method and system for making collected telephone calls in a package network environment for users interconnected through a package network, formed by a so called Soft Switch, a media gateway and an announcement/message generator. TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

A preliminary analysis of the voice technology on package network is necessary to better define some devices that are crucial for this architecture, to which collect calls belong to, as well as specifying some common communication nomenclature and terms.

The IP telephony technology, in package communication networks (for example, the Internet Protocol, IP), consists in using data networks with network protocols for making telephone calls and transmitting real-time voice in the form of data packages.

Additional call and voice service protocols are implemented, which allow users to communicate with the same quality offered by conventional public system networks for switched telephone and mobile telephone public systems. These protocols are executed by network devices, so voice packages will not delay, or have their sequence changed or lost, assuring real time communication.

Figure 1 illustrates, basically, package network architecture and its elements. The network has the purpose of transporting and routing data packages between several elements connected to it - among them are: Gateway, Soft Switch, Multi-point Control Unit, Gatekeeper and others. Gateway is the device responsible for the interoperability between the package network and the conventional telephone network, and its function is converting real time medial (analog voice into compressed digital voice), as well as tuning signaling for telephone calls up to the signaling controller. However, in big networks, media and signaling conversion functions can be separated in distinctive equipment, called Media Gateway (MG) and Signaling Gateway. For simplifying functions of the referred Gateway, networks are provided with another device, the Gateway Controller (or Caller Agent, or Soft Switch), responsible for the effective control of ongoing calls performed by the Gateway, in a way to use and generate signaling information and commanding Gateways to start, check and terminate a call between two telephone sets. Similarly to the Gateway, in big networks, Gateway Controllers are split into Media and Signaling Gateway Controllers.
